Volunteer for the Spring Plant Sale!

Do you miss viewing Mercer’s plant selections in person? Shoppers can browse hundreds of high-quality plants rarely found at local retail nurseries and “Mercer Grown” plants during The Mercer Society’s Spring Plant Sale on Friday, May 7, and Saturday, May 8.

To make this special event a reality, Mercer needs volunteers to fill more than 100 positions, ranging from sale set-up and take-down to hospitality.

“We welcome individuals and groups,” said volunteer coordinator Jamie Hartwell. “Most opportunities are for volunteers 16 and older, but those 12 to 15 can also participate with an accompanying parent for select positions.”

Two critical positions – cashiering and ticket writing – will require pre-event training.

“These positions are vital to our success,” said Kitt Burnsides, the president of The Mercer Society. “Cashiers must be at least 18. Classes will be scheduled for late April or early May and will only take about an hour.”

Three shifts will be available for most positions – from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 12:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for multiple shifts. Complimentary snacks and drinks will be provided.

“Volunteers are critical to the success of the Spring Plant Sale,” said Hartwell. “Before you sign up, please ensure you can meet this future commitment.”
