Seasonal Drives
Mangum-Howell Center hosts annual holiday food and toy drives in November and December. Visitors are welcome to donate new, unused toys and nonperishable food to the center. Toys for Tots will collect the donated toys and distribute them to community members in need. Food drive items will be collected by Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM).
In August, Mangum-Howell Center will collect school supplies for elementary school students in Precinct 4.
Skills Classes and Summer Programs
In addition to year-round classes for people of all ages, Precinct 4’s community centers offer fun summer programs. Each week, children attend activities such as puppet and magic shows, children’s theater, ice cream parties, book clubs, arts and crafts, and nature presentations.
Discover a talent you never knew you had by signing up for classes like quilting, sewing, woodworking, guitar, ceramics, singing, drama, drawing, and painting. Want to kick back? Pull up a chair and play bridge, pinochle, board games, or dart baseball.
Those interested in picking up a few new skills can participate in financial workshops, home-improvement seminars, safety lessons, and gardening classes.
Theatre and Musical Groups
Precinct 4 not only hosts visiting theatrical groups, such as Express Children’s Theatre and Thunderbird Theater, but we offer field trips for individuals 50 years and better to venues throughout Houston, including concert halls, theaters, and local museums.
Wellness and Active Classes
Embrace a healthy lifestyle by attending weekly fitness classes geared to a variety of age groups and fitness levels. Our community centers offer karate, yoga, T’ai Chi, aerobics, sit-and-be-fit, rhythm walking, line dancing, square dancing, and more.
Interested in improving your health and wellness? Attend seminars on topics such as weight loss, stroke prevention, and CPR/first aid. In addition, visitors can attend health and wellness support groups, receive vision screenings, and register for annual flu immunizations.
