Residents can now enjoy safer parks and greenway trails thanks to a new partnership with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
In August, Precinct 4’s Parks Department and deputies with the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office met with game wardens to share information, pledge resources, and get to know each other over a hot pot of coffee.
The meeting was designed to benefit all organizations. Wardens agreed to act as additional eyes on the ground and support Precinct 4 constables patrolling Precinct 4 parks. Now wardens know who to call if a poacher encroaches on Precinct 4 property, while parks staff have another resource if they suspect someone is committing a crime in a park. Wardens also toured and visited new areas of the greenway that they had limited access to in the past.
The partnership was facilitated by Landon Reed, assistant director of Precinct 4’s Community Assistance Department.
“These partnerships are important to ensure everyone has the resources they need to respond to crime efficiently in our parks,” he said. “We all had the opportunity to sit down with each other, enjoy a cup of coffee, and form partnerships.”
To report a non-emergency in a Precinct 4 park, contact Precinct 4’s Community Assistance Department at 281-353-8424 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For emergencies, always call 9-1-1. For more information on game wardens, visit https://tpwmagazine.com/archive/2003/aug/ed_2/.
