Kuykendahl Bridge Scheduled for Completion

Motorists traveling between Harris and Montgomery counties along Kuykendahl Road may soon enjoy faster commutes when a second two-lane bridge at Spring Creek opens in June.

Construction on the two-lane bridge and roadway segment along Kuykendahl from Pine Plains Drive to Flintridge Drive began last year. Once complete, traffic capacity along the corridor will double. Harris and Montgomery counties worked together to fund the $7.05 million bridge connecting both counties.

The Woodlands Road Utility District No. 1 funded the design phase services and managed the project during construction. The project is a continuation of last year’s road expansion project along Kuykendahl Road between Indian Hill Road and Timarron Drive. The $1.2 million project, funded through the METRO General Mobility Program and bond funds voters approved in 2015, included widening the segment from two to four lanes, opening an extra lane in each direction.

"This is a key corridor between Harris and Montgomery counties. Opening new lanes will greatly improve the flow of traffic and help both counties thrive as residents commute back and forth,” said Commissioner R. Jack Cagle. The Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) division administers and manages Precinct 4's capital improvements program from road expansion projects, traffic signals, and intersection improvements to traffic management systems designed to improve mobility and air quality.
