Students in the program work on botany projects at Mercer as part of their coursework under the guidance of Professor Elizabeth (Betsy) Morgan. This spring, a new group of students have taken on projects at Mercer. Students will work in the botanical center and the north side conservation nursery, gardens, natural areas, and the Harris County Precinct 4 Prairie Dawn Preserve.

Projects include an herbarium assignment involving the long-term loan of 50,000 plant specimens from the Spring Branch Science Center; the propagation of two rare wetland wildflowers; the reintroduction of shore milkweed to Mercer’s natural areas; native plant restoration; and analysis of soil surveys from the Prairie Dawn Preserve. Similar opportunities are available for other interested volunteers. Please contact the Mercer Botanical Center at 713-274-4200 for further details.
