Learn gardening tips and tricks from experienced artisans and gardening professionals during Mercer's Summer Garden Club June 17, July 22, August 26, and September 16 from 10 a.m. to noon.

In each workshop, attendees will create a unique, take-home item or plant. The series kicks off in June with lessons on how to mount a staghorn fern and plant a rabbit’s foot fern in an unconventional planter. In July, attendees will learn which gingers grow well in Houston and propagate a specimen to take home to their own garden.

The series continues in August with lessons on designing a unique floral arrangement using flowers from the garden. In September, visitors can learn to weave a basket by hand using natural materials to create a functional piece for the home. “Children get to have a fun, unique summer camp experience. Why not adults as well?” says Maryanne Esser, president of The Mercer Society. “This will be an opportunity for you to spoil yourself. Bring along your friends or make new ones during this one-of-a-kind series.”

Along with the classes will be complementary plant sales that are open to the public at The Mercer Society Gift and Plant Shoppe. The entry fee for each workshop is $40, but TMS members can save! TMS Members: One workshop $35 or four workshops for $125 Non-Members: One workshop $40 or four workshops for $145 Enrollment fees cover the cost of all workshop materials including take-home items. To register or receive additional information for these classes, call The Mercer Society at 713-274-4166.
