In honor of Mother’s Day and National Public Gardens Day, Mercer Botanic Gardens invites the public to attend Blooming Bonnets Friday, May 12 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for an old-fashioned tea party in the gardens.

Celebrated annually on the Friday before Mother’s Day, National Public Gardens Day raises awareness about the value of public gardens with activities and events at gardens across the nation. This year, Mercer and its nonprofit organization, The Mercer Society, are hosting an event to pay tribute to both days.

“In the past, ladies of all stations of life would gather and share conversation over tea and treats,” said The Mercer Society President Maryanne Esser. “What better location for a lovely tea party than Mercer Botanic Gardens? So, we’re inviting all the ladies of Houston to don their finest and return to a time of great conversation, friendship, and sharing.”

Attendees are encouraged to dress for the occasion in hats and gloves. Anyone who wears a bonnet qualifies for a chance to win a prize for best "blooming bonnet." Seating is limited. For reservations, call The Mercer Society at 713-274-4166 by Wednesday, May 10 at 5 p.m.

With leadership from Commissioner R. Jack Cagle, Mercer Botanic Gardens is a Harris County Precinct 4 Parks facility located one mile north of FM 1960 at 22306 Aldine Westfield Road in Humble, 77338. Anyone seeking additional information or requiring special assistance to participate in any program should contact Mercer at 713-274-4160 or visit www.hcp4.net/Community/Parks/Mercer.
