Seek out what is blooming and participate in plant identification to assist visitors. Learn about Texas native plants and endangered species in the Conservation Garden. Dress for the weather with tennis shoes or boots, gloves, and a hat. Sunscreen and water are recommended.

Join Horticultural Coordinator Matt Abernathy Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m. for native plant landscaping and habitat restoration in the park. Volunteers assist with gardening outside the Nature Center, tending plants in the greenhouse, removing invasive plants, assisting with habitat restoration, and other horticulture projects. Volunteer Doug Ebeling also offers vegetable gardening at 10 a.m. in the heritage garden at the pioneer homestead. Closed-toed shoes, gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and water are recommended.

If you are looking for a new hobby and like to doodle, Zentangle is for you! Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing patterns. It is a meditative art form that is most often drawn using a black pen on white paper. Volunteer instructor Senetta Young teaches the basic Zentangle designs that anyone can draw anywhere. Stop by the Center to see several beautiful Zentangle drawing samples. Call 281-591-7830 or come by the Center to sign up. Supplies are provided for the first class along with a list of supplies for future classes.
