Bayland Community Center has a storied history.

The site at one time was home to the Bayland Orphans Home, which was used to house orphans of deceased Confederate veterans. Harris County took over operations of the facility in 1918 and moved it in 1936 to a site in Webster. Former Precinct 1 Commissioner Kyle Chapman tore down the old orphanage and started the park in the 1950s. It was the first county park to have little league fields.

In the 1980s the current facility was used as a field house for the Houston Gamblers of the USFL. The Gamblers also utilized nearby Fun Stadium in the park as their practice facility for the entire two years of their existence.

Improvements were approved in 1995, and the Bayland Community Center, as it stands, came to be.
